Mantras

The following mantras are often chanted in class:

Adi Mantra
This mantra is used to open each class. Its purpose is to link us to all teachers and all students who have come before us. Because we are using the same sound vibration as the very first Kundalini Yogis, we are said to be linking into the "golden chain."

The words are: Ong Namo Guru Dev Namo

Ong = infinite creative consciousness
Namo = I bow to, or I honor
Guru Dev = the power and wisdom that draws us from darkness into light
Namo = I bow to, or I honor

Longtime Sunshine
This Gaelic prayer is used to close each class. It is traditionally sung 2x through and ends by chanting 3x "Sat Nam" (Truth is my essence). The words are:

May the longtime sun shine upon you.
All love surround you.
And the pure light within you guide your way on.

Mangala Charan Mantra
This mantra is often used to invoke protective energy. Yogiji refers to this mantra as the "7-second miracle" because it takes 7 seconds to chant through it once, and he says that it creates a buffer so that you will arrive at a calamity 7 seconds after it is already over. Often yogis will chant this mantra each time they get in their car to drive. We usually chant this mantra 3x in class.

The words are:

Ad guray nameh
Jugad guray nameh
Sat guray nameh
Siri Guru Dev(ay) nameh

Ad guray nameh = guided from the primal core and beginning
Jugad guray nameh = guided through every moment of experience and activity
Sat guray nameh = guided in your heart's deepest truth and being
Siri Guru Dev(ay) nameh = guided by the unseen Infinity of your higher self
